Traffic Sign Reminder (TSR) VISION

What is the TSR-Vision System?

The TSR-Systems displays relevant traffic sign information inside the car so as to remind the driver of any traffic restrictions or warn the driver of any dangers.

Restrictions with respect to speed or overtaking are being displayed as long as the restrictions apply.

The TSR-System measures the speed using the GPS co-ordinates, calculates the difference between allowed and actual speed and issues a warning tone, of the actual speed is larger than the allowed speed.

What is the TSR-Vision System good for?

The TSR-Vision system dramatically increases driving safety.
The driver is warned of dangerous areas e. g. schools and hospitals. He is warned of road works and always is informed about traffic regulations or restrictions, even after having missed traffic signs.

In addition, the actual speed calculated from the GPS co-ordinates is being displayed with higher accuracy than the odometer of the car and the system has a compass function, showing the driving direction. In case of road accidents or road works warning signals will reach the driver before approaching.

How does the TSR-Vision system work?

The TSR-Vision system use a GPS receiver that allows the exact position, speed and heading to be determined.

The TSR-Vision system has all positions of traffic signs or dangerous areas stored in its memory.
These position are being continually compared with the actual position of the car. When approaching a traffic sign a warning icon is being displayed and an acoustical warning will be issued.

The TSR-Vision system is a dynamic system in which the data of traffic signs is continually updated.
This is done via dedicated update radio transmitters positioned at gas stations, where updated information is transferred to the TSR-Vision system in the car.
Here, the information is stored in a dedicated memory.

In addition, online transmitters with longer ranges of up to several km are being used in case of accidents or one day road works. The information then is directly fed into the TSR-Vision system without being stored in the memory.
Online transmitters and update transmitters are always with a central control office (information headquarter) via GSM modules. In this way the proper functioning of the transmitters is assured and information is updated continually.

For busses, police cars, fire fighters etc. it may be helpul if the central office knows the exact location of the vehicle.

By directly connecting the TSR-Vision system to a GSM mobile phone either via cable or Blue Tooth connection, data concerning the position, heading, and speed of the vehicle can be easily transferred to the central office.

This feature is currently under development at MSS Elektronik GmbH in Germany.

Further Development

The TSR®-Vision system is continually being improved and its funcationality is increased.

Since the system can be updated by data transfer from the central control office to the update transmitters and from there to the TSR-Vision on board units in the cars a large number of additional services may be implemented later.
